Dr. Rakesh Ravikumaran Nair, MD, MPH, MBA, is a physician-leader, educator, and advocate for home-based primary care, with over a decade of experience delivering high-quality care to frail, homebound elderly patients. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine and brings deep expertise in geriatric care, chronic disease management, palliative care, and healthcare delivery innovation.

Dr. Nair is an Assistant Professor at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where he teaches both basic and clinical sciences. As a dedicated medical educator, he has developed innovative clinical anatomy modules incorporating virtual and cadaveric dissection techniques to advance student learning. His academic contributions include over 35 poster presentations and 10 oral abstracts at the American Association for Anatomy (AAA), where he now serves as an Ambassador. He has also authored a medical textbook and co-authored peer-reviewed research in vascular medicine.

Clinically, Dr. Nair has served the South Florida and Atlanta regions for over eight years as a home-based primary care physician. His work has centered on improving quality of care, reducing avoidable hospitalizations, and enhancing patient satisfaction for medically complex and underserved populations. His leadership extends to overseeing multiple clinical sites, leading quality improvement and clinical protocols, and mentoring new clinicians entering the field of home-based medicine.

With advanced training in public health and healthcare management, Dr. Nair is deeply engaged in interdisciplinary learning, policy advocacy, and health systems transformation. He plays an active role in community outreach through FIU’s Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP™ Mobile Health Clinic, integrating education with preventive and primary care for vulnerable communities.

Looking ahead, Dr. Nair is focused on the future of Home-Based Medical Care (HBMC), particularly in expanding telemedicine, remote monitoring, and value-based, team-driven care. He remains committed to supporting the Academy’s mission through education, leadership, and advocacy to ensure that patients receive compassionate, evidence-based care in the comfort of their homes.
